I met with Mel in late spring to discuss a large backyard project that also required coordination with our pool builder. What started as a blank canvas—aside from some DIY work left by the previous owner that needed to be completely removed—quickly became something truly special. Because of the natural terrain of the yard, Mel designed an upper deck area with two patio-length steps that completely transformed the space and gave it an unmistakable resort-style feel. From the very beginning, he listened carefully to our vision and thoughtfully brought it to life, creating an outdoor living space that will become our favorite place to be.
Work began in mid-summer, and Jonathan, Ivan, Jay, and Ive were nothing short of amazing. Watching them work over several months was honestly inspiring. Everything was done by hand—nothing prefabricated—and the level of care, precision, and craftsmanship was astonishing. I found myself in constant awe of what they were able to accomplish day after day.
They removed old concrete slabs and poorly constructed pillars and replaced them with nearly 2,000 square feet of Techo-Bloc pavers, a pavilion with a countertop and two heaters, a firepit with a seating wall, and an outdoor kitchen complete with a griddle, grill, and refrigerator. Every detail was intentional, and every member of the team is a true craftsman.
We were so impressed that we added a small front-yard project to remove more of the previous owner’s DIY work and create a cohesive flow from front to back. We are beyond excited to fully enjoy this space when warmer weather arrives—it already feels like a personal retreat right in our own backyard.
