This project is unique because it not only offers much more in the way of outdoor living but it actually transformed the landscape of the property to fit the family’s needs. The owners have small children and wanted a safe place for them to be able to play and enjoy their yard. The addition of the large retaining wall allowed the leveling of the back yard so the family can enjoy their firepit and even add a small pool for the little ones to enjoy on those warm summer days. The addition of the fence also minimizes the risk of toys, or children, rolling down the hill. Unless it’s part of the game!
The smaller retaining wall in the front serves to prevent unwanted runoff from the flower beds into the driveway and yard. It also gives the feeling of uniformity and completeness to the home.
The steps may seem floating but they serve and integral part in navigating what would otherwise be a precarious landscape. With the steep inclines the stairs eliminate the risk of falling down while still moving freely about the property. All this being said, the additions served purpose without having to blow the bank on leveling the entire property. Plus they still have the perfect hill for the kids to enjoy sledding on those snow days we all prayed for as children.
